Ralph Calkins
Ralph V. Calkin b.1930 was born in Cochecton Center, N.Y. After high school, with the financial help of his parents, Ralph, owner of Lake Huntington Service and Anita, Postmaster for Lake Huntington, he started a meat bird operation. In 1957, he married Edna Klein b.1932, who helped on the farm. After the meat bird market collapsed, he converted his 2 coops to starter pullets and then an egg farm. In 1968, unable to make any money, he closed the business. He obtained an explosive license and worked for well drillers as a dynamite specialist until he retired.
