The most interesting aspect of documenting egg coops in Sullivan County was the variety of architecture. While certain general "styles" existed, they were dictated by the era and technology of egg farms. Each succeeding generation of coops brought a new method of construction and a new look to the buildings as well as a general increase in the scale of the building. Above all each coop was an example of "vernacular" architecture. The egg farmer or builder created the design and plans by themselves. Many egg farmers even built the coops with their own hands. General parameters were common but the construction and design of each coop was unique. These pictures are photographed in a deliberate neutral manner to record the style and scale of each building.
